Most of this week is all fallout and radiation from the VMAs. In case you weren’t watching, at the conclusion of the broadcast, Miley Cyrus dropped her brand new album, Miley Cyrus and The Dead Petz, for free. But not to be outdone, MMG boss Rick Ross also announced this week that he was dropping a brand new mixtape.

Those three are adding to an already busy week with the long-awaited Rodeo from Travi$ Scott and FIDLAR‘s second effort. We’ve also got new stuff from Dåm-Funk, Iron Maiden, and so many more in the new albums you need to hear this week.

Travi$ Scott – Rodeo

When you bring up the name Travi$ Scott, it brings up a lot of different feelings. Some people think he’s an innovator, and that’s why he works with folks like Kanye West and Paul McCartney. Others feel like he gets out of line, and when he gets arrested or orders people to beat up fans, he doesn’t deserve his spot. Well, now is the put-up-or-shut-up time for him with the release of Rodeo.

So far, songs like “3500” and “Antidote” have been promising, but there is a lot riding on this album. Truthfully, in a lot of fans eyes, it can’t just be decent. Delays and bad press have elevated the stakes for Scott, so Rodeo will have to hit a home run to exorcise a lot of those demons. Hopefully he has the bite to back up the bark.

FIDLAR – Too

The dudes in FIDLAR had such an impressive debut with their self-titled 2013 album. Surprisingly, we learned in our interview with their frontman Zac Carper, they almost self-destructed and lost everything. But they pushed through the drug abuse and madness to put forth their new album, Too.

With “40 oz. on Repeat” and “Drone,” we can luckily see that the band hasn’t lost a step, despite ditching the outright debauchery. But a little fun never hurt anyone. Everything in moderation.

Miley Cyrus – Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz

So much could be said about Miley Cyrus as a celebrity and media personality, but this week, we can legitimately evaluate her for the actual reason she’s famous. Her new album, Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz, aims to be a provocative, 21st century hippie freakout mainly produced by psych folkies The Flaming Lips and hip-hop mastermind Mike WiLL Made-It.

Not a hip-pop album as teased on Bangerz or “23,” or a country-tinged rock album as previewed with any of her Happy Hippie videos, Dead Petz is more of an experiment versus a more structured effort. At 23 songs, it could be considered indulgent by some or ambitious by others — it all depends on how much trust you have in Miley as an artist. For what it’s worth, all the tools are there for her — but she can actually make something great?

Rick Ross – Black Dollar

Despite his legal and money troubles, Rick Ross is not slowing down. He’s released two studio albums in the past year and a half, and now he’s back again with a brand new mixtape called Black Dollar. We’ve already heard “Foreclosures” and “Money Dance” with The-Dream, but the full tracklist includes big names like fellow MMG labelmate Meek Mill, Future, Gucci Mane, August Alsina, and Anthony Hamilton.

When Ross comes out with these mixtapes of original material, he treats the projects like they’re albums. Rich Forever was a best rap album of the year candidate. Here on Black Dollar, he’s hoping to replicate that success and bring back that old Rick Ross. Hopefully he can.
