Beach House released their fifth album, Depression Cherry, on August 28 of this year to mostly positive reviews. It was their first album after a three year layoff since 2012’s Bloom. However, they are not waiting around to get to their next album. They have announced that they will be releasing their sixth album, entitled Thank Your Lucky Stars, on October 16.

Yes, that’s two albums in less than two months for Beach House. Clearly, they had a lot of material they felt quite good about. Stereogum did a bunch of sleuthing to try and uncover whether or not Beach House had some new stuff waiting for us. There was talk of lyric websites with new URLs and unreleased photos and videos of songs from 2012. Then, Beach House just went and tweeted about how they have a new album coming out. So, you know, pretty great detective work guys, but it didn’t really end up mattering too much.

The band says the album is not a collection of b-sides or a companion piece to Depression Cherry. Thank Your Lucky Stars is entirely its own thing, although one presumes the songs from these two albums were crafted roughly around the same time, so they may be somewhat similar. Or, perhaps Beach House put all these songs on this album because they are distinct from the sounds of Depression Cherry. We could do some digging to try and figure out the truth, but then Beach House would probably just go and give us the information a little while later. Plus, it’s less than two weeks until the album comes out anyway.
