Did you know there’s a UK version of The Voice? Not only does it exist (sadly it does not feature coaches spinning around in swivelling meat pie seats), but it’s also produced a comment that’s either an intriguing revelation or a misunderstood joke.

Reports have bubbled up that Boy George claimed during a recent taping that he slept with Prince. We’re talking beloved Under The Cherry Moon star Prince, not one of the Royal Family ones. According to “look at this goofy murder plus here’s some gossip” outlet, The Daily Mail, the audience went berserk over this revelation and taping had to be stopped until everybody calmed down. The Culture Club talent was said to have received an endless string of high fives until producers spoke with him about his claim of making sweet love to the funkiest Minnesotan in history.

Once production staff spoke with George he quickly reversed course on his comment. Here’s what someone in the crowd told Daily Mail.

“After that, Boy George started backtracking saying he hadn’t really slept with Prince and that in reality, he just had his poster on his wall. But as far as the crowd were concerned the cat was already out of the bag.”

To be fair, it wasn’t as if Boy George just exclaimed “GUESS WHO BONED PRINCE?” during a contestant’s tepid rendition of “Fight Song.” Giving credibility to the singer’s comment being a joke is the fact that it came from an exchange with Paloma Faith (apparently a thing in the UK) over their credentials. George noted that he duetted with Luther Vandross and Smokey Robinson. Faith countered that she’s had the privilege of singing with Prince. Not one to be one-upped, George than quipped “Forget that, darling, I’ve slept with Prince.” And here we are.

Representatives for The Voice UK have tried to squash the “Boy George slept with Prince” chatter with statements pushing that it was all just lighthearted banter and no legit Princef*cking claims were made. Speaking with People, one spokesperson says the whole thing’s been blown out of proportion.

“He just went, ‘Oh darling, I’ve slept with him.’ He went on to say that he had Prince posters on his wall as a kid. He was never being serious.”

The show’s reps also stress that reports of the show being stopped in its tracks over the alleged bombshell are completely false.

We look forward to seeing if Prince references this whole hullabaloo on Princestagram.
