Jaden Smith has a fantastical new interview with GQ, although it’s unclear what he’s promoting. He has some films in the works, but nothing on the immediate horizon, and we occasionally hear about his music, but there’s none of that here. Instead, the 17-year-old son of Will and Jada Smith gets real about his interests in life. This is Jaden Smith at his most glorious. He’s the young man who used to kill it on Twitter and who boldly wore a dress to prom. Jaden’s just living life.
As it turns out, Jaden living life is highly entertaining. He tells GQ all about the Giza pyramid replica he built in his backyard, which is part of his ongoing go at “art installations.” In 10 years, Jaden says, he will be exactly like Banksy, living off the grid and popping up unannounced. Not that he dislikes the limelight, mind you. Jaden adores being famous and is truly living his best life, as described in this interview:
“It’s fun, bro. That’s what a lot of people don’t realize. It’s so much fun. It’s the best thing. People think you’re crazy – I feel like it’s an honor, actually, for people to think I’m crazy. Because they thought Galileo was crazy, too, you know what I’m saying? I don’t think I’m as revolutionary as Galileo, but I don’t think I’m not as revolutionary as Galileo.”
Galileo? Now, Jaden doesn’t follow a traditional scientific curriculum. He and his 14-year-old sister, Willow, are home-schooled. Whether or not their program is academically stringent, we’ll never know, but Jaden claims to be a scientist. I suspect he speaking of metaphysics, not actual science, but this excerpt is still one to behold:
“Me and Willow are scientists, so everything for us is a scientific test upon humanity. And luckily we’re put in a position where we can affect large groups of human beings at one time … And that’s what I really encourage kids to do, is learn the things that you want to learn, because then not only will school become fun, but it will make your dreams come true. I rarely go to parties. My whole life is just dedicated on learning and breaking like, the craziest records of life, and being like one of the craziest human beings to ever exist. I’ll go to college. I want to set up office at MIT just so I can learn and bring in new technologies into the world.”
The kid’s got dreams, and hey, we all thought some wacky stuff at age 17. Some of us wasted those years idolizing hair metal bands, you know what I’m saying? This kid’s gonna be fine.
