Paul McCartney And Beck Played Some Beatles Songs Together

PETA, the animal rights group, had a 35th anniversary event on Wednesday. Whether or not you agree with their politics, you have to give them credit for this: they can really put a concert together. They even got Paul McCartney and Beck to join forces to play a couple songs together.

The legendary Beatle, who also appeared in the Simpsons episode “Lisa the Vegetarian,” and Beck got together to play The Beatles’ “Drive My Car” and “I’ve Just Seen a Face.” Neither of them have anything to do with the ethical treatment of animals, but they are good songs, so let us not quibble on that front.

You can see bits and pieces of the performance on the internet, at least enough to get a sense of the occasion, and to hear what it sounds like when McCartney and Beck collaborate. After the event, McCartney quipped, “Sorry we didn’t get to play Beck In The USSR, Get Beck or Paperbeck Writer!” proving that Paul McCartney remains, as ever, one of the most delightful guys in music. Plus, if Beck and “Weird Al” Yankovic ever decide to play together at an event, we can finally get to hear the “Paperbeck Writer” that we were taunted with by Sir Paul.
