A ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Character Is Named After A Beastie Boys Album

Let’s face it, no matter how much you love the original Star Wars trilogy, there are some pretty dumb character names in those movies. Such as Bib Fortuna, Wedge Antilles, Droopy McCool, Nien Nunb, Admiral Ackbar, Sy Snootles, Salacious Crumb, and that’s just The Return of the Jedi. We can forgive “Zuckuss,” because The Empire Strikes Back is a classic; the same can’t be said for someone like General Grievous, from Revenge of the Sith.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens better be good, because it has some ridiculously random names. A super-fan recently discovered that there’s a new alien character called Ello Nasty, and on his (its?) helmet, it reads, “BORN TO ILL.”

Yup, that’s a Beastie Boys reference — just add an “H” before his (its?) first name. Jason Ward, the founder of Making Star Wars, confirmed as much, saying, “His species is named Abednedo in [the books] Moving Target and Aftermath. The Beastie Boys song ‘Shadrach’ references the Judaeo-Christian parable of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. So, he’s super Beastie.”

Ello Nasty is already every kid’s favorite character, at least until Ooking Down the Barrel of a Gun shows up in Episode VIII.
