Guests of the cruise who witnessed the woman go overboard believe she did so intentionally. According to a friend of the missing woman, who spoke with a mutual friend also on-board, the incident happened right after a “twerk-off.”

“She and some other girl who was calling herself the twerk queen were having a twerk-off, ” Hansen said “Twerk queen started twerking on her (the missing woman’s) boyfriend, and it caused some sort of issue between the two of them.”

The U.S. Coast Guard was made aware of the guest going overboard when the ship was about 20 miles off the coast of Cuba, and immediately began searching for the woman by air and water. Norwegian Cruise Lines, the owner and operator of the ship, released the following statement Thursday:

“On Thursday, November 12, during a chartered cruise on the Norwegian Pearl, a female guest was observed intentionally going overboard while the ship was sailing the Yucatan Channel. The ship’s crew immediately initiated rescue measures, including deploying three rescue boats and notifying the coast guard and other relevant authorities. The search for the guest is ongoing. Both the ship and charter company teams are providing support to the family and all impacted guests at this time.”

Hopefully the authorities locate and rescue the woman.
