On Saturday evening, Miley Cyrus added to her cache of awards. This time, she took home a gong for a cause that’s close to her soul. Miley works tirelessly on charitable pursuits for the Los Angeles LGBT Center and the Happy Hippie Foundation. The latter establishment also raises money for homeless youth, but Miley’s focus lies with the disenfranchised youth who find themselves displaced as a result of the sexual orientation.
Miley’s heart is always in the right place. Girlfriend is all heart. She acts before thinking and often derails rightful attention to her cause through her outrageous antics. Miley’s spoken before about how she feels her nudity makes people take her more seriously because it give her visibility. She thinks people will listen to what she has to say if they’re already staring at her chest. This isn’t a logical approach, but hey, that’s Miley, and that’s why she licked a piano while accepting her Vanguard Award from the LA LGBT Center.
Once Miley had everyone’s attention, she gave an acceptance speech, y’all:
“I really have to pee, so I’m going to make this kind of quick … The first day that I got to visit you all is a day that I never will forget. And that’s because given the opportunity to sit in one of the support groups I walked away with a feeling of self-love that I have never been able to even give myself before. Because, you know my life until that point, I was subconsciously convinced that I had to label myself. Because everything in our life has to have a name. Everything in our life is something but I’m not a thing. We’re not a thing. We’re humans with feelings that change just like this weather – which we’ve gotta do something about, and I’m not alone.”
Once again, Miley showed seriousness in regard to her cause. Her message was muddled by her piano-licking antics, which also happened when she derailed her eloquent statement about her bisexuality by immediately making out with her girlfriend for the paparazzi. That’s Miley, y’all.
