Imagine that you’re a fan of one of the most iconic rap groups of all-time, and you just attended their in-store signing event. Then you discover that their taxi has left them there and they’re scheduled to perform that same day, so you offer to give them a ride and they accept. Well, this happened to Kevin Wells, a longtime fan of Public Enemy, who gave the rap group a ride to their performance in Sheffield, England.
Wells packed Chuck D, Flavor Flav and the rest of the collective into his Ford Focus, and headed to the Motorpoint Arena where the concert was being held. Speaking with The Telegraph, Wells described the scenario:
“We were chatting away, but the phone was constantly going as their management were clearly worried.”
Once the worry was over, the guys even belted out Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” together:
“Then as we were coming through Attercliffe, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, by Queen, came on the radio. Everyone was singing the words and rocking out in the back of my car, it was like a Wayne’s World moment. I was looking in the rear view mirror thinking, ‘Is this actually happening?'”
The Public Enemy crew made it to the venue 15 minutes before they were expected to hit the stage. And aside from getting a sweet selfie with the guys (and a special shoutout on the group’s Twitter account), Wells also has a great story that he’ll be telling for a long time.
