When Radiohead wiped its social media slate clean without warning, fans speculated that Thom Yorke and his band mates were about to drop a serious amount of new music on the world. Sure enough, new videos for the songs “Burn the Witch” and “Daydreaming” hit the internet, as well as the promise that a then-untitled album would be released digitally on Sunday, May 8. Well today’s the day, and the followup to 2011’s The King of Limbs — titled A Moon Shaped Pool — is now available for purchase on iTunes. It also popped up on the Google Play Store, but the link went dead shortly thereafter.
In addition to the two already released singles, A Moon Shaped Pool includes tracks that either the full band or Yorke going solo have performed live at previous shows. As Pitchfork indicates, the song that concludes the album, “True Love Waits” appeared previously on the 2001 live EP, I Might Be Wrong. Other songs like “Identikit,” “Ful Stop,” “Desert Island Disc” and “Present Tense” have all popped up in one form or another before, but not in any official recordings.
A Moon Shaped Pool also features “Decks Dark,” “Glass Eyes,” “The Numbers,” and the proverbial mouthful “Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief.”
In addition to the iTunes link, the official website for the album is also up and running. Aside from information for where to purchase the digital edition, the A Moon Shaped Pool site also includes specs for the CD, vinyl and special edition versions of the physical album. The latter comes in at a whopping $86.50, but that price tag includes two vinyl records, two CDs, digital downloads, artwork and other goodies.
Physical copies of the LP will hit stores on June 17.
