The year that powerhouse upstart Alessia Cara has had has been an incredible journey. It’s almost poetic that she performed at the 2016 VMAs Pre-Show on this date, August 28, because exactly one year ago this week that she released her Four Pink Walls EP which hosted her breakaway hit “Here.” Now, 12 months later, she’s slaying at the MTV Video Music Awards Pre-Show along with Lukas Graham and Jidenna. Not bad at all.
The young Canadian singer/songwriter took the pre-show stage to a ton of adoring fans in a truly NYC fashion, emerging from the subway like 8 million New Yorkers do everyday performing her track “Wild Things.” This was quickly followed up with a performance of “WILD” special guest with Troye Sivan and a powerful rendition of “Scars For Your Beautiful.”
But, we knew that she was going to kill it; after all, her clip for “Wild Things” earned a nomination for Best Pop Video. Alessia’s medley blew the crowd away in a way that was definitely unexpected. Will this result in a moonman from the VMAs rookie? Who knows. But win or lose, Alessia clearly has come a long damn way from one year ago. And that’s, well, you know…
