Arcade Fire’s ‘Afterlife’ Is A Reminder That Best-Of-The-Year Lists Should Be Written In December

There’s nothing to be ashamed of: you list things, I list things, we all list things. (That’s my 729th favorite sentence of the day.) Best TV episodes, greatest films, something about books, probably; it’s only natural. That’s why it can be tempting to start working on, say, your favorite albums of 2013 list halfway through the year, in the middle of June, but then something like Arcade Fire’s Reflektor comes along and blows the competition out of the Nestlé Waters Canada. I’m assuming, that is. I haven’t heard the album yet, but if the whole thing’s as good as “Afterlife,” holy sh*t.
