Barcelona’s Primavera Sound Music Festival Puts All Other Music Festivals To Shame

America is a great country. NO ONE DENIES THIS. We’re the home of punk rock, stand-up comedy, Diet Pepsi, and Scarlett Johansson, which, just with those four things and people alone, makes us better than the rest of the Indias and Chinas of the world. But, and I’m sorry to say this, we’ve been bested by another country when it comes to something we take a lot of pride in, for it is the U-S-A that came up with charging $10 for a cup of warm beer, probably: music festivals. Take a look at Barcelona, Spain’s Primavera Sound 2013 lineup.

Blur, My Bloody Valentine, Wu-Tang Clan, The Knife, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Phoenix, The Postal Service, Fiona Apple, Hot Chip, The Breeders, Swans, Band of Horses, Deerhunter, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Dexys, James Blake, Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, Crystal Castles, Death Grips, Local Natives, Tinariwen, Rodriguez, Daniel Johnston, Neurosis, Dinosaur Jr., Shellac, Hot Snakes, Bob Mould, John Talabot, Disclosure, Killer Mike, Solange, Jessie Ware, Liars, Dead Can Dance, and Fuck Buttons.

Also playing: Neko Case, Kurt Vile and the Violators, Fucked Up, Meat Puppets, Dan Deacon, Four Tet, Foxygen, Simian Mobile Disco, The Vaccines, Thee Oh Sees, Matthew E. White, Apparat, Omar Souleyman, METZ, Daughter, Woods, Christoper Owens, DIIV, How to Dress Well, Goat, King Tuff, Mac DeMarco, Wild Nothing, Mount Eerie, OM, The Bots, Glass Candy, Menomena, Camera Obscura, The Sea and the Cake, Daphini, Guards, Merchandise, Savages, Nick Waterhouse, Poolside, and White Fence. JESUS. If music festivals were oxygen, I’d breathe in all…the…um…I can’t even finish that metaphor, because it’s a distraction from booking a ticket to see My Bloody Valentine and Wu-Tang Clan together at last, from May 22-25. But if you can’t leave the country, though, New York’s Governors Ball’s June 7-9 lineup is pretty insane in the membrane (*checks to see if Cypress Hill is playing Primavera*), too.

Kanye West, Kings of Leon, Nas, Kendrick Lamar, Animal Collective, The Avett Brothers, The xx, Beach House, Grizzly Bear, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Feist, Death From Above 1979, Crystal Castles, Azealia Banks, Local Natives, Cut Copy, Young the Giant, Beirut, Dirty Projectors, Bloc Party, Gary Clark, Jr. Miguel, Twin Shadow, Japandroids, Deerhunter, Alt-J, Divine Fits, Dinosaur Jr., Yeasayer, Fucked Up, Best Coast, Thievery Corporation, The Lumineers, Of Monsters and Men, The Vaccines, Polica, Wild Nothing, Freddie Gibbs, Icona Pop, Reignwolf, Holy Ghost!, and Roadkill Ghost Choir. In other words: IS IT SUMMER YET?
