Beyoncé and Coldplay apparently worked together on more than the Super Bowl 50 halftime show and their recent collaboration, “Hymn for the Weekend.” But you’ll never, ever hear it.

In Chris Martin’s upcoming interview with Rolling Stone, the Coldplay frontman reveals that Beyoncé completely shot down a half-baked idea of his in the studio.

Martin once presented a song to Beyoncé called “Hook Up” and played it in the studio for her and producer Stargate. She turned it down, he says, “in the sweetest possible way: She told me, ‘I really like you – but this is awful.’ “

As someone well-versed in Southern English — a language where phrases as innocuous as “bless your heart” are meant to absolutely eviscerate — I think I can translate this Bey slam. It means something like this:

No big deal for Martin, though. After all, he’s used to having his ideas turned down by megastars. Other highlights from the interview include the status of his relationship with ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow (“I have a very wonderful separation-divorce”), his attempts at keeping up with dance trends (“I’m not sure if I can whip, but I can nae nae with the best of them”), and the fact that he’s totally aware of all your Coldplay jokes.
