Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Last Christmas’ Should Be The Definitive Version

Carly Rae Jepsen should be Taylor Swift- and Adele-level famous. Instead, she’ll have to make due with being a critical darling who finished number three in our Best Albums of 2015 list. E•MO•TION debuted at number 16 on the Billboard 200, and quickly plummeted from there. Not that Carly cares.

“I feel quite happy with how the record’s done, to be honest,” she told BuzzFeed. “I don’t really compare it to Kiss or whatever I’m gonna do next. That’s not where my attention goes. I feel really lucky that people have received it so well and that it has sold any amount.”

Spoken like a true professional Canadian (who loves The Sims).

Last month, Jepsen released a cover of Wham!’s “Last Christmas,” which falls in the middle of the holiday music spectrum. It’s not as annoying as Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime,” but not as great as Fear’s “F*ck Christmas,” which plays in every CVS in the country at least once an hour. Jepsen dropped by The Late Late Show with James Corden to perform the song.

That saxophone, though.
