The ESPY Awards honored the greatest of all time with a passionate tribute as Chance The Rapper celebrated Muhammad Ali.
Chance took the stage dressed in a suit and his trademark baseball cap, backed by a Gospel Choir, and literally sang the champ’s praises. While it was a bit unexpected that he’d sing instead of rap, it’s a testament to his versatility. It was appropriate for the moment and for a man who’s legacy can’t be summed up in a few minutes, let alone a whole night.
Chance is really having a moment, having released the extremely dope Coloring Book, getting an actual coloring book inspired by the album, then getting the news that said album could potentially be Grammy nominated. Plus there’s that world tour of his and he’s headlining this year’s Made in America festival. The year’s about halfway over and Chance is already making the case that 2016 belongs to him.
Before he took the stage, Chance and Steph Curry got ready for their respective big nights.
Yeah, everyone getting props tonight deserves it since this is a night for the biggest and brightest, but you could argue that even in retirement, no one’s star shined brighter than Ali’s.
