Donald “Childish Gambino” Glover had his “Control” moment in Sydney over the weekend, when during a live show, he called himself “the best rapper,” then proceeded to knock Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and ScHoolboy Q. (Weirdly, he left off Kanye and Froggy Fresh.) Here’s the full verse.
I’m the best rapper, definitely top five.
If these other rappers think they’re better, they’re f*cking not alive.
I cut their head off, that’s every rapper living.
That’s Kendrick. That’s Drake. That’s ScHoolboy. That’s everyone.
I don’t give a f*ck, I’ll kill n*ggas.
And then:
This n*gga think he Drake. Nah, I ain’t Drake.
I sing better, I do better, my sh*t wetter.
Dan Harmon added, “If you return to Community, I’ll knit you a sweater.”

He must have been as they say “on one”. Dan Harmon would be on my top 5 before this guy.
The Dean is a better rapper…
people are still pretending glover is a good rapper?
why?
Yeah, I still don’t get it.
Oh Donald. Getting absolutely zero response from Kendrick and Drake will be the perfect “fuck you”
Yeah, pretty much.
Allow me to anticipate their response: “Who?”
I don’t understand how I can like Donald Glover so much and at the same time think Childish Gambino is fucking insufferable.
I thought that was the point. You mean this isn’t a parody?
Bets are still on…
@shadowtag
that Weird Al shirt in the banner image would lead me to believe it is indeed parody.
I think he’s a comedic genius, and I’ll fight anyone who says otherwise.
Rapper though? Uhh..
I really enjoyed his first album but I don’t get his Gambino persona basically taking over in real life.
I had no idea they were the same person… Lame.
In fairness, it’s like two entirely different people. Maybe he’s just working some kind of persona gimmick.
Yeah, like Andy Kaufman and Tony what’s his name.
So this isn’t a prank or a joke? People actually pay good money to go see Donald Glover pretend to be a rapper??
Taking his sweet time to respond to Control.
Really though, ha.
That, was awful.
Calling yourself the best rapper is like calling yourself the best crapper. Because rap is crap.
Good one, Dad.
Very funny, Pierce.
I bet you’re a politcally conservative WWE superfan *checks mrerjr824’s comment history* I’m a winner!
I actually listen to a lot of rap, mainly 80s to 90s stuff because I think most rappers today ARE terrible Glover’s Because The Internet was pretty terrible…I was kinda being sarcastic with that comment..SO SUCK IT AUNT JEMIMA..YOUR SYRUP SUCKS.
Oh no you di’int
Oh I did…bust a move AJ…bust a motherfuc*in move!
That wasn’t nearly as awful as some of you make it out to be.
His last two records were pretty solid and it’s basically part of the game to claim your the best ever. So I’m not really sure what the issue or news is here
I’m fairly confident no rapper has ever insulted another rapper in the history of the rap game. Isn’t it all just music about sneakers and marijuana?
“I’m the best rapper, definitely top five.
If these other rappers think they’re better, they’re f*cking not alive.”
You’re right, that’s brilliant.
@WTFkid show me specifically where I said it was brilliant
I would agree that it’s not news at all for a rapper to claim he’s the best. When he starts specifically name-checking guys, that could be considered calling them out.
@Pencil-Necked Geek – but that’s not rare either, and most of the time the people called out don’t care. When Kendrick did it the response from who he went after was basically “and? Good for him, that’s what we do”
I agree.
@dissident Hyperbole
I like gambino the rapper over glover the actor
I don’t get it.
Calling yourself the best rapper alive is pretty much a requirement in rap music. Camp was a really good album, and Because the Internet is really good driving music, but Glover barely even raps at all on it. And this performance is definitely not great evidence for his best rapper alive case.
EP is still has best work. I truly enjoy every song on it even if its only 5 tracks.
I agree with both of you.
But I also think he should do some more stand up.
Don’t see how this is newsworthy, rappers claim they’re the best alive 10 times a day
Why Childish Gambino will never be elite: MY COLUMN
“I sing better, I do better, my sh*t wetter.”
Let’s have a Kickstarter to buy Donald Glover some Imodium.
It’s a well known fact that Glover has some of the wettest bowel movements in the industry. Turd viscosity is on par with street cred in the ranking of great rappers
Last week I heard an interview with Ron Artest. In it, he referred to “Metta World Peace” as another person.
Is glover one of those guys who views his performance personae as another entity? If so, then I actually kind of like that he said he’s the best rapper and did it in the worst way possible. If he doesn’t then, well… he should pretend like he meant it that way.
The video is like a high school talent show. A better than average high school talent show, but that dont change what it is.
It’s not newsworthy because he’s saying hes the best, it’s newsworthy because he’s naming people and that’s not something he usually does.
How can you say “im the best rapper. Def top 5.” If you think youre the best, no need to follow it up with that 2nd part.
A rapper boasting that he’s the best? The hell you say!
why so mean, paula dean?
Why so sassy, Haile Selassie?
Kurupt is rolling over in his grave.
Rap’s still a thing?
Huh…
Based on the banner pic I’m picturing him singing “i caught crabs in paradise….and yes I mean both kinds of crabs…”
I’M THE BEST RAPPER ALIVE!! Where is my article, Josh Kurp?
Fab’s a better rapper than Childish Gambino and would absolutely murder him on a freestyle. There goes that argument.
Every time a rapper declares himself the best alive, I wonder who told them that Rakim is dead.
I’m a fan, but I hate the ‘best rapper’ schtick goes on. there’s no best. everyone’s great for different reasons
no no no, everyone is not great.
let me rephrase: All the great ones are great for different reasons. Example, Jay-Z is great for consistency and in-song marketing/relevance, Nas was/is great for telling stories from the projects, Em’ is great at rhyme schemes and telling stories from the trailer, Dre 3K is great at waxing poetic about anything, etc, etc, etc
fair.
The greats are great for different reason.
I just wanted to make sure we were clear on one important item: Ja Rule is not great.
agreed. R.I.P. Ja Rule circa ‘Holla Holla’
“I’m the best rapper alive!” – alive Rappers
Yeah, pretty much every rapper ever has a line about being the greatest. No biggie.
Dammit Troy! Just sign up for that new Yahoo shit.
