Come on now, of course each dude in Coldplay have their own customized BMX bike. I’m not sure if they cruise the streets of each city they play in before a show like in their new video for “A Head Full of Dreams,” but like the whole bike thing, I wouldn’t be all that surprised if they did that too. It seems like a very Coldplay thing to do. Coldplayesque if you will.
In the video for the fourth single from A Head Full of Dreams, the band take to the streets of Mexico City before their gig there in April at Foro Sol Stadium, and frankly, it looks like a fantastic way to spend an afternoon. As is their style these days, their adventure is splashed with intensely bright colors, as they ride their bikes throughout the city, pass their parked tour buses, and then ever so smoothly, arrive right onto the stage. The second half of the video is mostly concert footage.
The video opens with the famous Charlie Chaplin speech from the 1940 film The Great Dictator, a speech that has opened all of Coldplay’s concerts recently.
I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor. That’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible- Jew, Gentile, black men, white…
We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each others’ happiness, not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way.
To those who can hear me, I say “Do not despair.”
The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people.
“the kingdom of God is within man”, not one man nor a group of men, but in all men! In you! You, the people, have the power, the power to create machines, the power to create happiness! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure.
Just like those bikes.
