Die Antwoord’s ‘Fok Julle Naaiers’ Video Is Predictably Weird, Like The Group

Look, I’m gonna go ahead and warn you upfront — this may be a little too much for your senses to handle early in the morning, but I say suck it, internet!

Anyway, remember Die Antwoord, the South African rave-rappers who, with the help of Boing Boing, became international viral sensations last year and signed a record deal with Interscope? Well they parted ways with the label recently, just as their new album TEN$ION was set to be released. According to the band, the label wanted them to be more middle America-friendly, where as the band wanted to, for lack of a better term, keep it real and release singles like “Fok Julle Naaiers,” which loosely translates to “F*ck You All.”

Reports Boing Boing:

The zef-rockers have a new album in the can, TEN$ION. It was to be their second release on Interscope, and due out within the next few months. The band chose a track to lead with as a single, titled Fok Julle Naaiers (“F*ck you all,” loosely). The label heard it, perceived it as too hard for a single, and according to our sources, wanted the entire record to be reworked for more pop appeal (think Gaga or Black-Eyed-Peas). Ninja and Yo-Landi would have none of it, and asked their attorneys (one of whom was Michael Jackson’s former rep) to sever all ties with Interscope, forgoing a million dollar guarantee on the new record and choosing complete creative independence.

So the band formed their own label, Zef Recordz, and will release TEN$ION online because, in their words, “CDs are like motherf*cking VHS.”

Now, WAKE UP!
