Donald Glover And Reggie Watts Improvised A New Song And Sang ‘Kiss From A Rose’ On ‘The Late Late Show’

Tuesday night, Donald Glover made a guest appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden to promote his new television series, Atlanta, the runaway hit comedy-drama series that he both created and stars in. And while on the talk show, the actor’s musical chops were put to the test.

Improvisation was a recurring theme of the evening, as the show’s bandleader Reggie Watts put Glover on the spot and asked him to “consider jamming a musical instrument, like…right now.” Glover took it in stride, while seated next to NASCAR star Jimmie Johnson, who was thrilled, and Watts laid down a mid-tempo beat. Corden handed the man also known as Childish Gambino a microphone and their upbeat, harmonious collaboration quickly picked up momentum.

During the same episode, Corden learned that Glover’s go-to karaoke song is Seal’s “Kiss from a Rose,” which led to them both confessing that, just like the rest of us, they can’t sing it off-hand without butchering the lyrics. Of course, they began to improvise again, passionately belting out the ’90s hit in some sort of gibberish language that still somehow managed to sound pleasant. Who knows? Perhaps this will inspire a “Carpool Karaoke” episode in the future.
