Father John Misty Is Being Accused Of Ripping Off A Funny Or Die Sketch

Father John Misty’s uncomfortable, weird music video for “The Night Josh Tillman Came to Our Apartment” dropped earlier this week. The video’s concept, Tillman seducing himself after meeting at a bar, isn’t as strange as we thought. According to Funny or Die, we’ve seen it before.

The sketch website is accusing FJM of lifting the idea for the music video directly from their Dave Franco sketch “Go F*ck Yourself.” Take a wild guess as to what happens in that one.

The post starts out by comparing shots of Dave Franco entering a bar and ordering two drinks with shots of Tillman doing the same. At this point, they admit that both the similarities are likely coincidence. Everyone walks through doors and orders two drinks in pretty much the same fashion. But as the comparison goes on, Funny or Die gets more and more irate (admittedly, likely for comedic purposes), and ends the post by angrily telling FJM to go f*ck himself.

Tillman, for his part, is unsure whether the post is meant to be taken sincerely (something that FJM fans can relate to).

Of course, it’s worth noting that the FJM music video didn’t come from nowhere. The whole concept of “The Night Josh Tillman Came to Our Apartment” is that the narrator is exactly as awful and insufferable as the girl he’s taking home.
