Final Track: 7 Must-Hear Songs Of The Week

It’s impossible to cover each bit of new music that comes out during the week, so every Friday, we’ll be doing an end of the week music roundup. It’s called Final Track, and we’ll count off a few songs released during the week that are worth giving a listen to.

Today, we’ve got selections from Joe Budden, the Avett Brothers, Hilly Eye, and more.

“In the Aeroplane Over the Sea” by the Avett Brothers

A sweetly strummed cover of the great Neutral Milk Hotel song, performed by the Avett Brothers live.

“The Antidote” by St. Vincent

Ugh. Still can’t get over that album cover. But “The Antidote,” St. Vincent’s churning contribution to the Breaking Dawn 2 soundtrack, is too good not to include. The things you’ll do for love…

“More of Me” by Joe Budden with Emanny

“Middle of the Night” by Leonard Friend

This pulsating electro-pop single is a nice showcase for former-XYZ Affair frontman Alex Feder to show off his impressive vocals.

“Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” by Tame Impala

Close your eyes, and take an acid trip back to a time when Pet Sounds and Sgt. Pepper’s dominated the charts.

“Amnesia” by Hilly Eye

Guitarist Amy Klein left punk rock laureates Titus Andronicus to focus on her own band, Hilly Eye, with drummer Catherine Tung. “Amnesia,” the dissonant and effectively fragile first single from the group’s debut album, Reasons to Live (due out in January on Don Giovanni Records), proves she didn’t make a Gob-style mistake.

“F*ck You” by Bad Religion

Even after 15 albums, soon to be 16 with True North (January 22), the middle-aged punks in Bad Religion could still kick your ass. And then scream, “F*ck you” while you’re left bleeding on the ground.
