Final Track: 7 Must-Hear Songs Of The Week

It’s impossible to cover each bit of new music that comes out during the week, so every Friday, we’ll be doing an end of the week music roundup. It’s called Final Track, and we’ll count off a few songs released during the week that are worth giving a listen to. (Banner via)

Today, we’ve got selections from Brittany Howard and Ruby Amanfu, The-Dream, Gang of Four, and more.

“I Wonder” by Brittany Howard and Ruby Amanfu

Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard and singer-songwriter Ruby Amanfu team up for a cheery cover of Searching for Sugar Man‘s Rodriguez’s “I Wonder” for Jack White’s Third Man Records. That was a fun sentence to type.

“Tron” by The-Dream

Well, this was about as expected as Daft Punk doing the soundtrack for Tron Legacy. On a warped single from his upcoming IV Play, The-Dream deep-voice raps that “I am R&B,” despite evidence to the contrary.

“Face the Problemzz” by Mathematics ft. GZA, Raekwon, and Cappadonna

The year of Wu-Tang reunions continues with the laid back “Face the Problemzz,” from Mathematics’ The Answer, featuring the talents of Raekwon, GZA, and Cappadonna.

“R.E.M.” by Big K.R.I.T.

Or, the Big K.R.I.T. song that samples James Blake’s chilly “The Wilhelm Scream.”

“Broken Talk” by Gang of Four

Post-punk pros Gang of Four (or at least Andy Gill and some other guys who are now in Gang of Four) are working on a EP that’ll likely come out sometime in the spring, before hopefully releasing the follow-up to 2011’s restrained Content later in the year. Here’s the dance-y first listen to the band’s 2013 output.

“Gangsta” by Yelawolf ft. A$AP Rocky and Big Henry

“YEAH” by James Hetfield

I know we already covered this, but it’s my favorite song not of the week, but of the year.
