Final Track: 7 Must-Hear Songs Of The Week

It’s impossible to cover each bit of new music that comes out during the week, so every Friday, we’ll be doing an end of the week music roundup. It’s called Final Track, and we’ll count off a few songs released during the week that are worth giving a listen to. (Banner via Getty Image)

Today, we’ve got selections from Xiu Xiu, White Fence, David Bowie, and more.

“Today’s Lesson” by White Fence

Want to do something good while listening to good music? Purchase The Wiener Dog Comp II: The Ghoulie Tape from Burger Records. For only $6, you can get new songs from the likes of Ty Segall, White Fence, and Thee Oh Sees AND all the money goes to healing Ghoulie the Dachshund, who needs back surgery. DO IT.

“The Return of the Juiceman” by OJ da Juiceman

“Let the Heads Roll” by SKATERS

Halloween has come and gone, but SKATERS’ brash “Let the Heads Roll,” about the upcoming zombie apocalypse (it’s gonna happen), still sounds good and reckless. Unless the apocalypse has already happened since I wrote this. In that case, I, for one, welcome our new zombie overlords.

“Atomica” by David Bowie

David Bowie is re-releasing his quite good The Next Day with five new songs next week, including “Atomica,” which includes the great line, “I’m just a rock star stabbin’ away.” Sexy.

“Listen and Wait” by Grizzly Bear

Grizzly Bear is also putting out an expanded edition of one of their albums, Shields. One of the tracks is: wait…now listen to “Listen and Wait.”

“Every Night” by Josef Salvat

I believe “smooth croon” are the words you’re looking for.

“Just Say I Love Him” by Xiu Xiu

Nina Simone covers will always be included in Final Track. Even still, this is a very good Nina Simona cover.
