The world continues to process the sheer horror of the Paris terrorist attacks that killed over 100 people in a rash of seven strikes throughout the city. ISIS claims responsibility for the evening of terror while President Obama pledges his full support. One of the attacks took the form of a deadly hostage situation at what should have been a peaceful celebration of music at an Eagles of Death Metal concert in the City of Light.

Along with the rest of the world, Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters have been watching the developments unfold. In light of these events and Paris’ closed borders, the band has cancelled the rest of their tour:

“It is with profound sadness and heartfelt concern for everyone in Paris that we have been forced to announce the cancellation of the rest of our tour. In light of this senseless violence, the closing of borders, and international mourning, we can’t continue right now. There is no other way to say it. This is crazy and it sucks. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who was hurt or who lost a loved one.”

“This is crazy and it sucks” is the perfect way to describe the events that unfolded in Paris, and one can bet those words came from Grohl himself. In addition, a series of two concerts from U2 have been affected by the attacks. Only yesterday, Larry Mullen Jr. tweeted this photo of a lovely Parisian landscape next to the Eiffel Tower:

The band announced the cancellation of their Paris shows, which were to be live broadcast on HBO:

“We watched in disbelief and shock at the unfolding events in Paris and our hearts go out to all the victims and their families across the city tonight. We are devastated at the loss of life at the Eagles of Death Metal concert and our thoughts and prayers are with the band and their fans. And we hope and pray that all of our fans in Paris are safe.”

U2 promises to reschedule these shows at a later date.
