Here’s Beyoncé And André 3000’s Amy Winehouse Cover For ‘The Great Gatsby’ Soundtrack

Of all the songs on the star-studded Great Gatsby soundtrack, the one that stood out the most was Beyoncé and André 3000’s cover of “Back to Black” by Amy Winehouse. Well, now that the track’s out there, courtesy of Mark Ronson’s EastVillageRadio show, we can definitively say: it’s noticeable, but not in the intended way.

Because it’s pretty bad. The original’s exhilarating sultriness has been replaced by a sticky dub beat, and while André 3000’s one of the greatest rappers of his generation, he’s not much of a singer. Beyoncé sounds great, but even she can’t save the song from its muddy self. In other words: “Elephant Love Medley,” it ain’t.
