How To Watch The VMAs Online — 2016 Live Stream

The 2016 VMAs are upon us, which means that earlier this week I was freaking out a bit, scrambling to figure out how to watch them. It seems like no matter how many times an award show rolls around I’m always debating where to watch at the last second. I mean, Britney Spears is performing for the first time in like a decade, this show is one for the history books.

Luckily, we’re living in an age of #peak streaming, so tonight I’ll just be watching the show from the comfort of my own home. For one, I discovered that my roommate’s sweet cable setup includes MTV — yes on the television (!) — and for another, the show has an online livestream for all you poor souls out there without TVs and cable etc. Which, at this point, is most of my friends.

We will be live-blogging and GIFing and reacting to the show in real time, so stay tuned for coverage of all the performances and a recap of the winners list so far as soon as the red carpet pre-show starts at 7 PM (EST). Starting at 6:15 PM (EST) you can check out the livestream of the red carpet right here.

The official pre-show starting at 7 PM will be hosted by DJ Khaled (major key) and Charlamagne Tha God, and, eventually, features performances from the likes of Alessia Cara and Jidenna. If you are watching on your television, the broadcast begins at 8 PM. The show itself starts at 9 PM (EST) sharp — kicking off with this year’s Vanguard Video recipient Rihanna — so at least keep this link open in a tab for refreshing in a few hours.
