James Corden’s Beyonce Soap Opera Sketch Is Irreplaceable

Everyone knows that the one and only Beyonce has a way with words and her flair for the dramatic is unparalleled. With that in mind, CBS late night host James Corden and his writing staff realized that some of her lyrics are rather soap opera-esque, so they composed a sketch for Monday night’s episode of The Late Late Show. “The Bold and the Lyrical” stars Meg Ryan as a duplicitous lover clad in a long silk robe and Adam Scott as her paramour, while a dapper-looking Corden himself took on the role of a blindsided, spurned boyfriend who catches them between the sheets.

“You’re acting kinda shady. You ain’t callin’ me baby… Why the sudden change?” is how he initially confronts her.

We know his character and Ryan’s weren’t married, because she saucily tells him, “If you liked it then you shoulda put a ring on it.” Without revealing too many spoilers, the skit takes place entirely in a bedroom that looks like it’s straight out of the late ’80s and features a lot of lyrical banter between the three characters as they spout some of the most famous and memorable, as well as some obscure, lines from some of Bey’s extensive repertoire of hits.

Since Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke” just beat Lemonade for an Emmy, let’s hope that this sketch makes Beyonce laugh, so that she and Corden can collaborate in the future.
