Hear Bedroom Producer Jaymes Young’s Intoxicating New Song ‘Stoned On You’

It’s beyond a running joke at this point that the Pacific Northwest is full of stoners. Yes, Oregon and Washington were two of the first states in our fair country to legalize marijuana, and the practice of getting high has been pretty prevalent and socially-accepted there for a while. And yes, Jaymes Young is from Seattle, so the fact that he’s compared his latest love to getting stoned on his new single seems like a no-brainer. Today Young shared the synthy, falsetto-heavy “Stoned On You,” a playful ode to a love that feels like getting high.

In 2013 Young released his Dark Star EP and album, and in 2014 he shared another EP, Habits Of My Heart in 2014. This new single is the first new thing he’s done as a solo artist — though his 2015 duet with Phoebe Ryan, “We Won’t,” went so far as to chart on Billboard‘s emerging artists chart at the No. 17 slot.

Young wrote and self-produced his new track, which continues to build on a pop-crossover style that splits the difference between electronic music and folk music — kinda like Maggie Rogers. Great minds think alike I guess? “The song is about being totally infatuated with someone,” Young told Noisey of the track. “To the extent that it’s really an intoxicating experience.”
