Kanye West Explains Why He Still Wants To Run For President In 2020

In his quest to become one of the world’s most diverse and inescapable figures in modern history, Kanye West has done a lot of things. What he’s most famous for is the music that he’s released, it being heralded by fans and critics alike as genius, but he’s also been dabbling in everything from designing his own shoes to clothing.

Last year Kanye announced that he wanted to run for President of the United States in 2020 and while many heard it, it was dismissed as yet another strange Kanye boast that he probably wouldn’t be able to live up to. But was that all just bluster? According to Complex, Kanye was dead serious. Kanye spoke with BBC 1 about his intentions to run for office, including talking about actual issues.

“We are numb, we’re numb to 500 kids getting killed in Chicago a year, we’re numb to the fact that it was seven police shootings in the beginning of July … we’re numb to places on the Earth that we don’t live – like our life is okay but it’s okay for other people’s lives to not be okay,” he explained to BBC via telephone. “When I talk about the idea of being president, I’m not saying I have any political views, I don’t have views on politics, I just have a view on humanity, on people, on the truth. If there is anything that I can do with my time and my day, to somehow make a difference while I’m alive I’m going to try to do it.”

So while the initial claim may have felt a rant by an egomaniac bent on world domination, his actual reasoning seems to be rooted in reality and truly wanting to help people out with the unique voice that he has earned. Seeing as though real estate mogul and reality television star Donald Trump has been able to mount a successful campaign in 2016, nothing seems out of the question come the next election.

Don’t worry, though, he’s still planning on working with IKEA, so his presidential campaign shouldn’t be getting in the way of creating affordable, sleekly-designed, assembly-required furniture.
