Kanye West Would ‘Rather Do Things With His Mind’ Than Make Videos Anymore

Put a microphone in front of Kanye West, and it’s guaranteed he’ll have several interesting things to say. MTV knows it — they gave him four minutes to say whatever he wanted at the 2016 VMAs. W Magazine knows it too, because they dubbed him a “classic Renaissance Royal” for their 2016 Royals issue and filmed a companion video. The captivating interview covers a variety of topics, including his background as an art school student and his creative purpose. Naturally, it was chock full of colorful quotes.

Although making music videos (like “Famous” and “Fade“) is “one of the best parts about being a professional recording artist,” West said he doesn’t want to make videos anymore, explaining “I’d rather do things when I’m just using my mind.” It seems like he got fed up with dealing with people who underestimated his abilities, because in response to people who didn’t know he has “a f*cking Ph.D. in art,” referring to his honorary degree from School of the Art Institute of Chicago, because he had some choice words for them.

“It’s like shut the f*ck up. I will f*cking laser you with alien f*cking eyes and explode your f*cking head. Try to write a rap. Okay then, I made this f*cking t-shirt, now shut up.”

Calling himself a creator, West compared himself to Will Ferrell in the movie, Elf. Just like Ferrell’s character, he wants to make “toys” because he wants to bring joy to others. “I build things that mean things to people. I make the Christmas presents.”

The Life of Pablo rapper also added, “Money is not my definition of success. Inspiring people is my definition of success — doing things to the maximum” and put out a call to anyone and everyone who stands behind his vision, asking people to call “1-800-CALL-NOW.”

Sounds nice, Kanye, but how about giving out a real number?
