Katy Perry Is Not Good At Defining 'Feminist' Even Though She Totally Is One Now

Katy Perry sat down with the Australian morning talk show I Wake Up With Today, and in what was mostly a fluff interview, host Karl Stefanovic followed up a question of whether or not she considers herself a serious artist by asking her if she would describe herself as a feminist.

Previously, Perry told Billboard magazine in 2012: “I am not a feminist, but I do believe in the strength of women.” So, let’s see what clueless Katy Perry non-answer she gave this time!

“A feminist? Uh, yeah, actually,” she said. “I used to not really understand what that word meant, and now that I do, it just means that I love myself as a female and I also love men.”

Psssst, Katy: YOU STILL DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT THAT WORD MEANS. I am pretty sure what she just described was a confident heterosexual. Or a heterosexual who often enjoys the art of self-pleasuring, depending how deep you want to read into it. FYI: The standard dictionary definition of feminist is simply: “Advocating social, political, legal, and economic rights for women equal to those of men.”

Between this and those non-women over at Thought Catalog, I want to pass out some gift certificates to the women’s studies store.
