Katy Perry’s ‘SNL’ Performance Of ‘Swish Swish’ Was An Extravagant Drag Queen Show With A Surprise

Katy Perry is hard at work promoting her new album Witness, and her latest stop was Saturday Night Live. There she gave the crowd and audience at home an extravagant show for her performance of her latest single “Swish Swish.”

She didn’t bring Nicki Mianj along to perform the track that maybe/definitely features a few jabs at her longtime rival Taylor Swift. She did, however, bring an entire drag queen show, and a certain lanky, dancing, viral sensation to steal the show.

While Katy’s vocal performance was solid on its own, she mostly gave the stage to her supporting cast, allowing them their time to shine but it was Instagram-sensation Russell Got Barz who did his trademark number and owned the moment. Katy even stepped aside to let Russell do his thing, straight faced, of course, and stopped singing for a second to cheer him on.

The performance was undoubtedly interesting, and just might give a glimpse of what Katy has planned for her tour this summer, even if it’s not exactly what her fans might have imagined for the bouncy new track.

Check out Katy and Russell’s performance of “Swish Swish” — sans Nicki Minaj — above and preorder Witness before it hits retailers on June 9th here.
