Hear Kool Keith And MF Doom’s Bizarro Rap Collab ‘Super Hero’

Kool Keith has been in the hip-hop game for over 30 years, and he’s about to drop his 22nd album, Feature Magnetic, on September 16. Keith, also known on occasion as Dr. Octagon among a handful of other aliases, is one of the weirder guys in rap, even to this day. So what does an oddball rapper like Kool Keith do when the time comes to release a new album? He brings in a fellow hip-hop eccentric MF DOOM for a track.

The single, fittingly called “Super Hero,” features DOOM, right down to his iconic mask on the single’s artwork. MF DOOM, the perpetually masked rapper, hasn’t been around much recently. He’s appeared on a couple songs here and there, but mostly he’s been busy promising a collaboration with Ghostface Killah that has yet to arrive. So for now we will have to settle for DOOM jumping on tracks such as “Super Hero.” Fortunately, they are a combination that really work well together.

Both Kool Keith and MF DOOM are idiosyncratic rappers, and it may be possible to only like one of them but not the other. Still, DOOM is great, and he’s sharp as ever on this new track, although the rest of Keith’s album won’t feature the Villain. Keith also was interviewed by Billboard alongside the song. He talks about his love of New York and KISS, and also tells a story about somebody buying a banana with a credit card. Still as strange as ever.
