John Legend And Stevie Wonder’s Faithful Rendition Of ‘Hey Ya!’ Will Give You Flashbacks

OK, now you may see another Lip Sync Battle video is up on the internet and you may not think too much about it, because we’ve seen a lot of them already. You may think they are played out at this point. However, even if you are tired of lip-sync battles, you should check out this one from John Legend. It’s pretty impressive.

Legend has a bit of an upper-hand, admittedly, on account of the fact that he is an actual musician. This is more about showmanship than singing skills since, you know, he’s lip-syncing — for a guy with a voice like Legend, that almost seems like kind of a shame. His song of choice was “Hey Ya” from Outkast/Andre 3000, which also feels like a cheat because, c’mon, who doesn’t get excited when they hear that song?

Legend’s performance was opened by Stephen Merchant in old-time television mode, which replicates Andre 3000’s original music video, and the “All of Me” singer remains in full 3 Stacks mode throughout his performance. It’s a pretty accurate replication of the “Hey Ya” video… except Legend also has Stevie Wonder with him. Yes, Stevie Wonder, one of the most accomplished musicians of all time and a living icon, helped John Legend lip sync to “Hey Ya.”

You will have to watch the entire episode to know whether Legend won against Michael Phelps and Olivia Munn, but based on this clip it seems unimaginable he wouldn’t.
