M.I.A. has been busy at work releasing new songs and videos as a part of a project called Matahdatah. When she hinted at this in June, she said the mixtape will have corresponding videos culminating in “one piece altogether; it goes country to country.” And the first taste we get from the new project comes in the form of “Broader Than A Border.”

Featuring kids from West India and Africa, the first chapter (or Scroll 1, as she puts it) documents the youths performing traditional dances, while Maya blends into the background. Featuring a new song “Swords,” as well as “Warriors” from Matangi, the clip also brings to mind her collaboration with GENER8ION on “The New International Sound Part II,” which also featured young Chinese kids doing incredible martial arts.
