Marika Hackman’s ‘My Lover Cindy’ Reveals What Fencers Are Hiding Under Those Get-Ups

Marika Hackman’s new video for “My Lover Cindy” covers a premise we’ve all seen a million times before. A couple gets into an argument so they don their steel mesh masks, grab their foils and fence it out in their tastefully decorated stabbin’ room. Luckily, Hackman knows that we’re tired of stories about same-sex couples settling their differences via well-timed lunges. I mean, it’s 2017, y’all and that joke about lesbians bringing an epee on the second date got old in middle school. So, she allowed things to get a little weird.

We won’t spoil it here, but let’s just say the gloves, masks and jacket come off. And there’s no way to prepare yourself for the conclusion. Give it a watch up top.

“Cindy” comes from Hackman’s upcoming album I’m Not Your Man, which is out June 2 via Sub Pop. Take a look at the pre-order here and try and catch her when she hits the road in July.
