Max Weinberg Ran On Stage Last Night To Reunite With Conan O’Brien For The First Time In Five Years

It’s not the Conan O’Brien reunion the world wanted most of all (come back Little Jay Leno), it’s the one the world needed. After five years spent slumming it with Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band, anti-prostitution crusader and former Late Night with Conan O’Brien and Tonight Show drummer-slash-bandleader Max Weinberg returned to play the drums alongside his old bandmates for Conan‘s TBS show, and he did it in dramatic fashion.

Running out of the audience to embrace Conan before joining the band, Weinberg was all smiles and energy behind the kit while the man he replaced, current Basic Cable Band drummer James Wormworth, laid broken at the bottom of a well because Conan refused to foot the bill to mount a rescue.

Though Weinberg has maintained a busy schedule with The E-Street Band and The Max Weinberg Band, it was still nice to see him aggressively pounding away at the drums. Most people haven’t seen Weinberg since he decided not to follow O’Brien to TBS following what was classified as “massively invasive open-heart surgery.”

No disrespect to Wormworth or current bandleader Jimmy Vivino, but hopefully this is the first of many appearances for Weinberg, who was valuable to O’Brien as a bandleader and an occasional participant in Late Night‘s weird and wonderful comedy bits.
