Melvins Will Attempt To Play 51 Shows In 51 Days In 50 States

Sludge-metal giants Melvins have been together since 1983, and touring for nearly as long. After 30 years, it’s gotta be tough to convince yourself that a gig at some sh*t venue in a suburb of Cleveland is worth getting excited about, especially when you’re a, and I must repeat myself here, SLUDGE-METAL band.

So the Melvins, using their “Melvins Lite” moniker, have decided to make things interesting: beginning on September 5, Buzz Osborne, Dale Crover, and Trevor Dunn will try to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records by becoming the first band to play 51 shows in 50 days in 50 states. The tour starts in Alaska, then makes it way east, hitting most of the northern states, scaling down the east coast in late September/early October, before finally heading BACK west and ending in Hawaii.

I’d say that they’re insane (Unsane?) to attempt such a feat, but considering they just released an album called Freak Puke, it actually makes perfect sense. Maybe Jack White can open for them in Tennessee?
