What’s beef? Beef is when two R&B singers apparently compete. Miguel, while promoting his new album Wildheart, let the little nugget slip that he thinks he makes better music than Frank Ocean. Of course, he apologized and rephrased his point as soon as the comment started making waves, but it was still the perfect lawyer tactic of saying what you want to say and then having it struck from the record or withdrawn. The proverbial pee is already in the pool.
With that in mind, we decided to objectively compare the two revolutionary artists and settle this R&Beef. So let’s determine who is actually better: Miguel or Frank Ocean.
Chart Placement
The easiest comparison to start with is how well they sell. Miguel has had three No. 1 singles on the U.S. R&B chart. Frank Ocean hasn’t even had one yet. On the Hot 100 Chart, “Adorn” reached No. 17, while Frank’s highest-charting single, “Thinkin’ Bout You,” only hit No. 37. Both men have hit No. 1 on the U.S. R&B Album charts and No. 2 on the U.S. Album Charts. With all that in mind, this round goes to Miguel.
Winner: Miguel
Awards And Nominations
But it’s not all about sales. What about critical acclaim? That’s where artistry is really measured, right? Well, both men have been nominated a great deal for their relatively short careers, but we’re going to go with Grammys for our test. Frank Ocean and Miguel have each been nominated eight times for Grammys, but Miguel has won once, and Frank has won twice. Edge to Frank Ocean.
Winner: Frank Ocean
Live Performances
Having seen both these men perform live, it’s easy to say either could be the winner. But while it’s true both are incredibly talented live acts, Miguel has a certain leg-droppy performance in his past that may hold him back. Even if Hulk Hogan was a fan.
MIGUELAMANIA at least he did it right brother. HH

Since Frank Ocean doesn’t have any pending lawsuits over a concert, he’ll pick up the win.
Winner: Frank Ocean
YouTube Views
Awards and sales are great, but at the end of the day, it’s about the fans. It’s about the people who apparently have no jobs or school to attend, who can watch videos on YouTube and Vevo all day. In this particular category, Miguel outright crushes Frankie. Simply counting music videos, Miguel’s got 248 million views versus Frank’s 114 million, but Miguel has a few more clips and Frank is a little more mysterious when it comes to visuals. Still, gotta go with Miguel here.
Winner: Miguel
Co-Signs And Collaborations
Probably one of the biggest litmus tests for an artist is not just having a ton of fans, but professional respect. Who in your field wants to work with you or really is feeling your work? Miguel has worked with great artists like Janelle Monae, J. Cole, Wale and Mariah Carey. All incredible artists. But Frank has repeatedly worked with the holy trinity of Kanye West, Beyoncé, and Jay Z. That’s gotta give him the push.
Winner: Frank Ocean
Best Music For…Down Time
Alright, we’ve beaten around the bush long enough. Both of these guys have an incredible gift for making music. And they’ve given this gift to the world so they can in turn, get busy to it. Both of these guys’ discographies are suitable for such activity, but Frank Ocean has some tracks that are less sexy and more introspective. Miguel is straightforward all up in the bedroom. Photo finish goes to Miguel.

It’s a tie! We know, ties suck, but it’s too close to call. Besides, art is subjective, there’s no better or worse. Well that’s not totally true – there is objectively sh*tty art. But these two are uber talents who deserve all the respect in the world. However, if you have a definitive choice, let us know in the comments.
