My Chemical Romance Revealed An Unreleased Track From Their Upcoming ‘The Black Parade’ Anniversary Edition

My Chemical Romance might not be reuniting, but we’re still getting new music out of the deal. The band just shared “The Five of Us Are Dying,” a previously unreleased track from their upcoming 10th anniversary reissue of The Black Parade.

The new track is a rough early version of that album (and by extension the band’s) best song “Welcome to the Black Parade.” That track is a one-song argument about why MCR deserve a slot in the canon (this late-nite tv advertisement for Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge is the counter-argument), so it’s interesting to see just how that song came together. To fans of the song that would grow out of it, “Dying” is a bit of a tease, building toward the song’s triumphant shout of “We’ll carry on!” but never actually getting there.

In fact, it’s remarkable how much is different between “Dying” and “Welcome.” While the instrumentation is largely the same, the rough cut shares little with the final product. Barring a line about how “she’s watching over me” and the screamed “I don’t care!” near the end, this is almost a completely new song. Check it out up top and compare it to “Welcome” below:

The Black Parade‘s 10th anniversary reissue is out September 23.
