Nick Jonas And Demi Lovato Sang Back To Back At The 2016 Billboard Music Awards

Before the two head out on tour, Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato decided to team up for a power-packed performance at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards.

First, the Jonas bro took the stage to perform his haunting new duet “Close” with Swedish pop star Tove Lo. And following the moody performance, he was quickly followed by his tourmate, Demi Lovato, sporting an edgy look that included leather gloves and a choppy bob. The singer performed her hot hit “Cool for the Summer” off her fifth studio album, 2015’s Confident, following Nick Jonas and Tove Lo’s performance. Lovato also sported a sheer shirt with the women’s restroom icon [CORRECTION: the icon is both women’s and men’s], and it’s likely this reflects her activism with the LGBT community and the recent bathroom laws it has faced.

Last month, Lovato and Jonas called off their scheduled tour date in North Carolina following the passage of the discriminatory HB2 legislation, which prevents transgender people from using bathroom facilities corresponding to the gender with which they identify.

In recent years, Lovato has bravely discussed her substance abuse issues and her bipolar disorder, and has emerged as a “confident,” dedicated performer who will stand up for her beliefs. She was nominated this evening for Top Social Media Artist.
