Phoenix’s Technicolor New Love Song ‘Ti Amo’ Is Perfect For Windows Down Summer Cruising

Today Phoenix have shared the title track off their new album Ti Amo, it’s an upbeat, glittery take on ’70s disco that is going to be perfect for windows-down cruising anywhere there is sunshine. The electropop group’s sixth album will be out 6/9 via Loyaute/Glassnote Records. This release follows up their equally upbeat new single “J-Boy,” and a live burst of three songs that the group played at a festival in Antwerp, Belgium.

We’ve yet to hear an official version of the third song they played, “Role Model,” but that initial performance included both “Ti Amo” and “J-Boy,” so it looks like these will set the tone for their new album, which may be a return to form for the group. Their excellent breakout album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix put them on the map in 2009, but the reception to 2013’s Bankrupt! was much more tepid. Hopefully the summer release of such an upbeat and disco-infused album will make this record one of the sunny season’s most-played albums.

Based on this song alone, it probably will be for me. The initial bass line and beat fade out into a spoken word French section toward the end that give the track a spy-film feeling. All the intrigue still makes it perfect for blasting from your car, while careening down a highway. Listen above.
