Red Hot Chili Peppers Dropped Their Video For ‘Dark Necessities’

Red Hot Chili Peppers have been ramping up toward the release of their new album The Getaway, which comes out June 17, for a little while now. There have been single releases and an appearance on the incredibly, some might say inexplicably, popular “Carpool Karaoke” segment of The Late, Late Show with James Corden. Now, they have released a music video for the song “Dark Necessities.”

Befitting the song title, the video is fairly dark (aesthetically more than thematically) and follows a couple of separate groups of people. On the one hand, you have Red Hot Chili Peppers, who are rocking out/freaking out in some sort of somewhat dingy seeming homestead. Flea plays the bass while sitting in a sink for a period of time. Anthony Kiedis looks more like Justin Long than anybody should be comfortable with. On the other hand, we have a few lady skateboarders who… skateboard. Also they fall sometimes and we see quite a few nasty bruises and scrapes.

For a band that has been around for decades now, Red Hot Chili Peppers, at least in the video, seem to still have some energy left, which is good news considering Anthony Kiedis’ recent health scare. As for the song “Dark Necessities,” well… by this point, you know what Red Hot Chili Peppers sound like, and you know whether or not you like that sound. The video is pretty cool, though, and was apparently directed by Olivia Wilde who does a pretty great job. Check it out up top.
