The Flaming Lips Explore What It’s Like To Work At NASA On Acid

When The Flaming Lips and Lightning Bolt announced that they’d be teaming up to produce an EP, it didn’t take a rocket scientist (no pun intended) to predict that the collaboration would result in something trippy. And, of course, it has. The EP’s lead track pretty much says it all: “I’m Working At NASA On Acid.” Yep. Would you expect anything less from The Flaming Lips?

Interestingly, the video embedded above accompanying the song doesn’t contain any space travel imagery, but it does contain all sorts of trippy visuals — a virtual orgy of sound and color. I defy anyone to watch it and not feel at some point overcome with a “damn I wish i had some acid right now” feeling.

Incidentally, I went to a Flaming Lips show on New Year’s Eve in Madison Square Garden — I believe it was in 2006 — and, though the show was great, one of the great regrets of my life was not having dropped acid for it. Don’t make the same mistake I did, kids. Go to a Flaming Lips show and drop acid. Life is too short to live it filled with regret. You’re welcome for the free advice!
