The National Will Return This Fall With New Album ‘Sleep Well Beast’

After a few days of mysterious teasers, The National have finally revealed what all the spookiness was about. Matt Berninger and Co. are returning with a new album called Sleep Well Beast (as originally seen on the news crawl of this teaser).

While there’s yet to be an official announcement from the band or their label, posters announcing the band’s new album have cropped up. The posters promise with a release date of September 8 via 4AD. Other posters also announce a tour with the band Daughter. Judging by the sounds we’ve heard — and the generally unsettling way they’re going about promoting Beast — fans can expect something strange from the beloved indie act. At least we hope that’s one the band’s on when they’re sharing blasts of discordant guitar with captions like “The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness.”

Check out the tweets containing the posters — discovered by South Carolina folkies Ghosts of the Kodiak — up top and below:

To scratch that National itch — if brief snatches of new music aren’t doing it for you — revisit Matt Berninger’s cover of “The Rains Of Castamere” and read our interview with Berninger about the tour documentary Mistaken For Strangers. And don’t miss the band’s excellent holiday songs with the folks from Bob’s Burgers.
