The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame’s Class Of 2015 Nominees Will Make You Feel Old

In order for an artist to be eligible for Cleveland’s shiny jewel, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with an induction ceremony that’s held in New York, because Cleveland, their first recording must have been released 25 years ago. For this year’s class, that means 1989, the same year an East Bay punk band named Green Day put out 1,000 Hours on Lookout! Records. And they were never heard from again.

Actually, Green Day has sold over 75 million albums in the two decades-plus since then, and they’re even one of the nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s class of 2015.

The nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2015 are in, and the list includes Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, N.W.A, the Smiths, Lou Reed and Sting. The rest of this year’s hopefuls are the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Kraftwerk, Chic, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, the Marvelettes, the Spinners, Stevie Ray Vaughan, War and Bill Withers. The top vote-getters will be announced toward the end of the year and inducted on April 18th, 2015 at a ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio. (Via)

Morrissey is a gasbag, but the Smiths deserve to be in the Rock Hall, and Moz being in the same room as Johnny Marr would be must-see TV. Assuming he even shows up. He’d probably rather eat at Arby’s than have to talk about “How Soon Is Now” with his former bandmates. Anyway, fans can vote on who gets inducted, so expect Sting to start cold-calling tantric sex dens, asking if he has their support.
