The Weeknd Goes Full-Blown Pop With The Revved-Up ‘False Alarm’

Jesus Christ. The Weeknd did not — in the oh-so elegant words of Big Freedia — “come to play with you hoes.” He came to slay! And that’s precisely what the King of The Fall is doing. As promised when he sang that he was trying to put the competition in the worst mood, Abel’s tightening his grip on radio by releasing his second STARBOY single just a week after releasing the title track to his upcoming album.

The Grammy award-winning singer doubles back to our ears with “False Alarm,” the much more revved-up, dance-driven track featuring production by day one collaborators Doc McKinney and Cirkut. Lyrically, “Alarm” tells the tale of a gold-digging woman that a friend can’t seem to get enough of despite the fact that she’s an attention-craving druggie who belongs to everybody. Typical Weeknd lyrics with something of an electropop instrumental serving as backdrop. Maybe we get a video soon?

Meanwhile, “Starboy” is out here breaking records already. Abel’s single made history by having the “biggest opening weekend in streaming history” with over 17 million streams globally and 6.5 million streams in the US alone. At this rate, STARBOY is projected to do some pretty big numbers when it drops on Black Friday.
