Thom Yorke Debuted A New Song During New York Fashion Week

Thom Yorke, beloved frontman for the critical darlings Radiohead, has been dropping new solo music periodically at his most recent gigs, but he’s debuted another new song in a less expected place than a Thom Yorke concert. Namely, he released a new song called “Villain” which played as part of a New York Fashion Week show.

While you don’t necessarily associate Thom Yorke with fashion, at least not in the same way you do with, say, Kanye West, he has actually contributed music to fashion line Rag & Bone’s shows at New York Fashion Week previously. In 2011 and 2013, Yorke and Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich created mixes for Rag & Bone, so clearly every two years Yorke likes to step in and help these guys with their fashion shows.

As for “Villain” itself, it’s reminiscent of the kind of music Yorke — and Radiohead — have been making in recent years. It’s eight minutes long and weird and ethereal with the Brooklyn Youth Chorus providing extra vocals. It’s not a banger, is what we’re saying, but there is something interesting about it, and being “interesting” is an important part of fashion shows, it would seem.

While Yorke has been giving us new solo stuff in dribs and drabs, he’s also working on a new Radiohead album with those guys. So, we have that to look forward to, and we can also probably look forward to Yorke providing Rag & Bone with some music in 2017.
