Bono of U2 (as opposed to all those other Bonos) posted his A to Z of 2014 on the band’s website. It opens with the admission, “This is too long. You should not have time to read this. If you do get to the end of it then you are probably on the same painkillers as me.” From there it goes on for a very long time, writing about something for each letter of the alphabet. We’ll never forgive that B was not for “bonobos”.

However, he did give us a revealing update about the terrible bike accident he had last November, which came a week after the door fell off his jet in mid-air while he was still getting hate over the U2 album Apple put in all our accounts and shortly after he spoke publicly about his glaucoma. Man, some days are better than others.

In the post, he talks about the full extent of the damage from his accident, in which he broke his arm in six places and fractured his hand, shoulder blade, and eye socket. He writes, “I blanked out on impact and have no memory of how I ended up in New York Presbyterian with my humerus bone sticking through my leather jacket. Very punk rock as injuries go.”

He goes on to say he has a titanium elbow and is cancelling all public appearances for the first half of 2015 to concentrate on recovery. Then he wrote about the long-term effects of the damage:

“Recovery has been more difficult than I thought. As I write this, it is not clear that I will ever play guitar again. The band have reminded me that neither they nor western civilization are depending on this.” [empasis ours]

Well, at least he has a sense of humor, or some reeeeaally good drugs.
